A note on Github and VSCode

In this course, we use Github and Visual Studio Code. Our reason for picking these two services is their ubiquity; they are by far the most commonly used tools for their respective purposes. Common use means that there are a lot of resources out there to help you figure out these tools, and provide you with the basics that almost everyone in the digital world will be aware of.

However, both Github and Visual Studio Code are owned by Microsoft, a company that has become increasingly hostile to academics, and you might not want to associate yourself with. Thus, you are free to choose an alternative, like Gitlab or Bitbucket for Github, or VSCodium for VSCode, an open-source fork of the binaries of VSCode.
